Which Lens Should You Buy? Canon 35mm f/1.4 vs Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 Lens Comparison

Could the Canon 35mm f/1.4 and Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 be the most compared lenses of all time? Which one should you buy?

While both of these lenses are beloved by wedding photographers, street photographers, and photojournalists alike, when it comes to which one is better than the other— well, that’s a bit trickier. Let’s figure out which lens you should purchase. I took matters into my own hands by testing them out on the field so you know which one is best for you. While switching back and forth between the Canon 35mm f/1.4 and Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4, I captured close up portraits and full-body shots in the shade, the sun, and in both backlit and colorful backdrops.

My initial reaction was that the mechanics of the Canon 35mm f/1.4 felt a lot smoother and faster, with the overall photo quality also appearing sharper. Many photographers have issues with their Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 focusing consistently, and it was no different for me. If you’re wondering which you should buy, take a look at the comparison photos below and let me know which lens is best for you in the comments at the end of this Canon 35mm f/1.4 and Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 comparison guide!

Tips on how to use a 35mm lens:

1. Be extremely careful with full body photos. Pay attention to how you're handling the lens and avoid holding it high up while tilting it down, as it may shorten and widen your subjects.

2. When it comes to close up portraits, keep your lens parallel to the ground versus tilting it up. Because this is a wide angle lens, it tends to distort and warp your subject if not angled properly.
